Biking in and around Cecina means discovering an authentic territory, where sea, pine forests and hills draw perfect scenery for bike lovers. Whether you’re a mountain biker, a curious cyclist or simply a guest at our campsite looking for an outdoor activity, some of the most beautiful trails on the Etruscan Coast depart from Cecina.
In this article you will find selected routes, all with starting point in Cecina, perfect to do in half or full day. Each route includes distance, elevation gain, level of difficulty, and a useful description to help you choose the one best suited to you.
1. Easy route: loop in the pine forest of Cecina and Marina di Bibbona
Departure: Mare Pineta parking lot, Marina di Cecina waterfront
Length: 20-25 km
Height difference: +50 m
Difficulty: Easy
Surface type: compact dirt road in pine forest, bicycle sections
This is the ideal route to start discovering Cecina by bike: simple, completely flat and surrounded by nature. From the Tombolo pine forest, just minutes from Camping Bocca di Cecina, you pedal south along shady paths that are perfect even on hot days.
The ride reaches the pine forest of Marina di Bibbona, where the scent of pine trees and the sound of the sea accompany the trail. This route is also suitable for families, bike trekking and e-bikes.
Perfect in the early morning and in the spring/summer months.
Why choose it: shade, tranquility, zero traffic, seascapes.
2. Intermediate route: Cecina – Bolgheri – Castagneto Carducci
Departure: Piazza della Repubblica, Marina di Cecina
Length: 55-60 km
Height difference: +600/700 m
Difficulty: Medium
Type of background: mixed (asphalt + dirt roads)
One of the great classics of the area. From Cecina, one climbs inland through quiet roads that lead to the village of Bolgheri, famous for its charming Viale dei Cipressi. The route continues toward Castagneto Carducci, providing wonderful views of hills, vineyards and the sea in the distance.
The return trip is along a smooth route, alternating between dirt and asphalt. It is a perfect route for those who want a complete but not extreme ride.
Tip: In Bolgheri you will find fountains and bars for a restorative stop.
3. Intermediate route: Cecina – Casale Marittimo – Bibbona
Departure: Via Carlo Ginori, Marina di Cecina
Length: 35-40 km
Height difference: +450 m
Difficulty: Medium
Type of surface: asphalt and dirt road uphill
Another “postcard” route. From Cecina you pedal toward Casale Marittimo, one of the most beautiful villages in the area, characterized by stone alleys and views that embrace the entire coast. The climb is steady but never prohibitive.
From Casale we descend toward Bibbona, alternating fast stretches with white roads typical of the Tuscan countryside, and then comfortably return toward Cecina.
Perfect for: those who want a mix of sea and hills, with authentic villages and rural landscapes.
4. Advanced MTB route: Trail Colline di Cecina and Montescudaio hills.
Departure: Coop Cecina parking lot, Via Filippo Turati
Length: 40-50 km
Height difference: +850/900 m
Difficulty: Medium-high
Surface type: technical dirt, single track, dirt roads
If you love real mountain biking, this is your trail. The hills between Cecina, Montescudaio and Guardistallo are home to a network of trails and single trails that are perfect for MTB fun.
From the starting point you quickly enter the forest, following smooth trails, challenging climbs and technical descents. This is a route recommended for experienced bikers, especially in summer when the bottom can be drier and faster.
What to bring: sufficient water (few sources), spare inner tube, gloves, small pump.
5. Scenic route: Cecina – Vada – White Beaches
Departure: Camping Bocca di Cecina
Length: 25-30 km
Elevation gain: almost zero
Difficulty: Easy
Type of background: bicycle path + secondary roads
A perfect coastal route for those who want to ride in peace and enjoy the sea. From the campsite, you reach Vada via the coastal bike path and continue to the famous White Beaches, one of the most fascinating stretches of the Tuscan coast.
This is a trail suitable for everyone, also ideal for walking bikes or e-bikes. Do it early in the morning for spectacular light.
